No Notifications!!!

So I haven’t had notifications on for my phone since February. I don’t mean just turning on “Do not disturb”, I mean that I just went to every single app in the settings and turned off the notifications. I believe that this has been a game changer for me.

(I still have my to do list on, as well as my calendar on, because these apps gives me crucial information)

I realized after my trip to UCLA in February that my phone was a major cause of my daily/general anxiety. Just having notifications go off and people reaching out to me at any moment, made me feel that my life was not in my control. Also I am the type of person to reply right away, thus when I saw a notification I would want to reply/react right away. At first I thought that turning off notifications would cause a major problem and that I would miss out important things, but this honestly has not been the case. Also if an emergency was occurring or the other person wanted to reach me right away, they could just call me.

Additionally now when I am working on something and am in the zone, a notification will not distract me and I am more present with myself and what is going on in front of me. Also I no longer have the anticipation anxiety that I used to have, anticipating someones text back or reply back. Now I send a text go on with what I am doing and check it when I am ready to check it.

Also my friends and family have realized if they want a rapid response from me, is to just call or face time me because I do always have my phone on me so I will pick up.

I recommend you to try turning off your notifications off for just one day and see what it does for you.

As always, thanks for reading and letting me help you become a better you!
