One Takeaway Rule

Have you ever watched something and felt you needed to write everything down? But then you also felt the dilemma of not being in the moment and really understanding what is being said?

I have felt this dilemma many times, and decided what is something that I can implement where I can be present but also make sure to write the thing that I really resonated with. That is when I came up with the One Takeaway Rule. Essentially this rule is: whenever I watch something interesting and want to take a note, I watch the entire thing without writing a single note and at the end of it I write down the one thing I really resonated with.

Most of the time after we have finished watching something, the first thing we remember is the thing that we most likely resonated with. Thus we should just try to apply that one concept to our lives. If we’re able to successfully apply the one thing then we should be happy with ourselves, because that’s more than the average person.

Most of the time when we watch something there is a lot of great information. However it is unrealistic to apply all of that information into our lives. The best thing we can do is pick the one thing that we resonated with, write it down and try to apply it to our lives.

So next time don’t put yourself down because you couldn’t write down everything you wanted, at the end just write down the one thing that you resonated with.
