Rookie Season

Rookie Season
By Andy Brown

I was having a conversation with my dad over the weekend and he mentioned at some point that “My life is just starting”

We are in our rookie season.

Do we expect rookies to come in and win it all?

Do we expect rookies to become great legends off the bat?

Do we expect rookies to be the leading change?

No we do not.

Most of us are in our rookie season or haven’t even started our rookie season.

We are still young and we have just gotten out of the education system. We don't have everything figured out yet, and that's fine. We are in the beginning of our journey, and we have time to learn and grow. We are in our rookie season, and we should embrace it with excitement and curiosity. There is so much to discover and so many opportunities to seize. Let's make the most of our rookie season and see where it takes us.

I believe my main problem over the past year was not committing to a specific path. Our generation has countless options, and the internet exposes us to even more. There always seems to be a greener patch of grass, causing us to neglect our own dry patch. If we continue to focus on others watering their grass, our own grass will never grow. It's important to stop looking at other people watering their grass and start taking care of our own grass. Before we know it, our grass will be green and beautiful.

The education system numbs our ability to be proactive. We are often used to having accountability from our power hungry Diet Coke obsessed teachers, who force us through the learning process and provide structure to our assignments. However, in the real world, we don't have this same level of structure. We have to learn how to be proactive and take initiative on our own. It can be a difficult transition, but it's an important one to make in order to be successful in our careers and personal lives.

As rookies, we have the opportunity to shape the narrative of our own lives. We get to decide what our legacy will be and where we want to focus our gifts and talents. This can be an exciting, yet daunting, prospect. It requires introspection and self-awareness to identify our passions and strengths, but once we do, we can start to take intentional steps towards building the life and career we desire. Our rookie season is a time to explore, experiment, and discover what truly matters to us, so that we can lay the foundation for a fulfilling and purposeful life.

Thank you for reading, let’s grow together :)
