What History Can Teach Us

History was definitely my favorite subject in high school, APUSH being my favorite class in high school. I believe the main reason for this was that history is just a story. I agree that analyzing history was tedious but I feel that learned a lot from doing it. The obvious skill that I learned from this was historical analysis, and we can apply historical analysis to ourselves. I have been journaling since March of 2021, which means that I can read exactly how I felt on April 20, 2021, as well as April 20, 2022. This is crazy because I can see how I was feeling on a particular day about a particular subject and see how much it impacted me and how I changed over the course of days, weeks, as well as months. Thus by jumping into the past I can go back and learn from my mistakes and see changes I can make in the future. August 2021 was a low point in my life but August 2022 has been big litty. By analyzing my past, I am able to see mistakes I was making or how my feelings changed regarding a particular person or subject. I am able to use this and see what changes I can make in the future. I believe that journaling and tracking ourselves is how to reach growth. If we just live our lives without reflecting then we will not grow.

To start journaling don’t give yourself any expectations. Just open a blank page or document and just write as much or as little as you need to. Once you written enough you’ll know it as I usually feel as if a weight has been lifted. Once I start writing I notice my feelings start to change for the better, and I slowly start to move on. I literally write about anything and don’t really hold back, its for your eyes anyways.

Thanks for reading, lets grow together 🙂
